Earlier this year Gaby and I were talking about cutting her hair and she mentioned how she would like to donate it to people who are sick. Apparently she had heard about the organizations that donate hair to women and kids with cancer at school and I was very happy to hear that she was willing to donate her hair so selflessly.
I promised that I would help her do it so when I heard about the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program and their National Donate Your Hair Day I knew we had to be there, not only to fulfill the promise I had made to her but to continue fostering and encouraging that kindness and generosity that I had seen in her.
It is through these gestures that we sometimes consider small that kids learn the greatest values and lessons and as parents we need to stand up and be there to show them that yes, in fact, this is the way to do things.
She loved the idea of being at a salon because this is something big girls do 🙂 and was even more excited after Gabriel Samra, celebrity hair stylist and Pantene ambassador, congratulated her for coming forward to donate her hair.
It was s lovely afternoon, a mom and daughter date for a great cause. This was her very first hair cut at a hair salon and she was in cloud nine!
Many of the women helped say that putting on a wig makes them feel like themselves again during the toughest fight of their lives.
On September 8th, 2015, Gaby not only cut her hair, she also helped to change someone else’s life for the better. I am one proud mama!
